United has posted this season's first holiday sale featuring peak travel dates. The lowest prices are dispersed among many carriers, including AirTran, Continental, JetBlue, and, of course, United's sale fares.

Northwest is featuring sale fares between Minneapolis and Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Dallas, Jacksonville, and Milwaukee for travel through February. Besides one route beaten by Sun Country, these fares offer savings.

Virgin America's introductory sale offers nonstop flights between Ft. Lauderdale and a handful of western U.S. cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Seattle. AirTran, American, Continental, and others compete.

Voyage to far-flung cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, or Rome. Flights are available through spring, but since a purchase deadline hasn't been listed you'll have to purchase soon before the fares are suddenly removed.

With its latest promotion, American competes head-on in Southwest's and AirTran's current fare war. Book by Thursday, October 29, but also look at Southwest, AirTran, and Virgin America's competing prices.

For travel on Halloween Eve and Day, Virgin America is offering sale fares to many major cities including Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. American and United are matching the majority of the sale fares.

Ditch the winter blues and instead lay on the beach this fall. From only $29 one-way, JetBlue is offering fall flights to many Caribbean destinations, including Cancun, Nassau, and Santo Domingo, among other warm locales.

AirTran has more than 3,000 routes to U.S. and Caribbean destinations on sale including Boston, Orlando, Cancun, and Nassau, among many more. American, JetBlue, Spirit, and several other carriers are offering comparable prices.

With Southwest's three-day sale, $25 will get you a one-way flight to Chicago, Las Vegas, New York City, and Orlando. Our research shows no other airline even comes close to matching Southwest's prices.

Frontier has more than 1,400 routes on sale, with travel to Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. American and Continental match one of the routes we researched, but otherwise all of the sale fares show value over the competition.
