We came across this great tip in Peter Greenberg's book, The Travel Detective
and again from someone this week about how you can land a great discount of your airfare if it's for bereavement reasons.
Apparently someone needed to get to a funeral in the mid west. He called airline after airline, and they all quoted close to $1,000.00 round trip..........American gave them "Bereavement Fares" of less than 400.00 and when he needed to change the outbound and was told he couldn't citing "no seats" as the main reason, but after speaking with a supervisor, he changed it and put a note in the computer that anything he wanted changed was to be done at no charge.
We do not know this person but the one thing we picked up is this, death can come unexpectedly into the family, and last-minute travel is inevitable. We are not suggesting you use this as a reason but we would like you to know that there is such a thing called beareavement fares. Always pick up the phone to call, try American first of course!
